I hesitate to post anything publicly for fear of jinxing things, but I just can't keep it to myself anymore. DH has the opportunity to work for several months in his company's Edinburgh, Scotland, office, and WE ARE GOING! This has been brewing for about a year, starting with an interest survey last summer.
I have always enjoyed travel, but the truth of it is that I haven't traveled much since college, when I spent a year studying and traveling abroad. Other life goals took center stage: getting married, buying a house, having babies. I am so thrilled to have a chance to not only travel again, but to really experience life in another city for a length of time.
My year abroad was such a formative experience for me, at the age of 21. I am eager to see what it is like to be middle-aged this time. How will it be different or the same? What will it be like for the kids?

I think we have so much schedule flexibility as a homeschool family. I'm grateful that we aren't tied to a school calendar. And if we are lucky, we might be able to connect with some Scottish homeschoolers. In contrast to Germany, where my extended family lives, homeschooling is legal in Scotland.
Also, they have an Ikea, and good whiskey, and the Loch Ness Monster. Time to acquire appropriate rain gear.
